Press Release
The national-socialist arrogance of the leadership in Perisos
Florina/Lerin - April 16, 2008
The International Panel Discussion on the topic “The Ignored Minorities of Greece: Western Thrace Turks and Macedonians” was held on Thursday, April 17, 2008 in the European Parliament. The Panel was organised by the European Free Alliance-European Political Party in cooperation with the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF), European Free Alliance – Rainbow (Macedonian minority of Greece) and the Federal Union of the European Nationalities (FUEN).
During the last several days, on the occasion of this Panel Discussion, the European delegates representing the Communist Party of Greece, the Secretary of the Party, as well as the newspaper Rizospastis, engaged in a series of attacks against the opinion of the EU regarding the rights of national and cultural minorities in Europe. Mainly, their attacks have been focused against the policy of support for “the different minority groups or other groups of the population with differences” in our region. For the Communist Party of Greece, the question of existence or non-existence of minorities and the protection of their rights, does not represent the internal issue dealt with by every country, the issue of equality and democratic functioning. On the contrary, they consider it to be a matter of negotiations and agreements between the national states. According to the Treaty of Lausanne, taking into consideration the fact that Greece and Turkey have not signed an agreement for the rights of the Turkish minority within the framework of the Greek state, the Communist Party exclusively acknowledges the existence of a Muslim minority in Thrace. Applying the same logic, since Greece does not recognize and does not have the intention of recognizing the Macedonian national state in the future, there can not be and there will not be a Macedonian national minority in our country.
Through this, the Communist Party reveals the national policy of the Greek political system in the last phase of the Macedonian question. The insistence of including a geographic determination in the name, has the objective of eliminating the national identity of the neighboring country, which means that it puts the basis for the “right of a legal state denial” of the existence of a minority, connected to a “non-existing nation”. These calculations conflict with modern reality, the law that rules the relations between states at a global level and above all at the level of the Western World, and the institutions which our country is fortunately associated to.
Greece, being part of the European events, has the obbligation to respect the group and individual right to self-determination of its citizens, a right that is valid for the “naive Europeans”.
As a sign of culminating anti-Macedonian policy, the leadership of the Communist Party of Greece-- after having betrayed the popular request for massive and unconditional return of the political refugees-- by accepting the exclusion of its former fellow combats, “the ones who were not Greeks by genus”, an action planned by Papandreu (Andreas ) and Genimatas, they now throw away even its torn “Slavo-Macedonian” fig leaf, qualifying the formulation for “Slavophone Greek citizens” as nationally correct.
Every discussion about the national and cultural minorities, and the violation of their rights, is considered by the Communist Party of Greece as an American-European “imperialistic finger” whose objective is to “create reserves that will play the role of watchguards for blackmailings and a new massacre in the Balkans”.
The Party’s nomenclature that strongly diffended the reasons behind the actions of the leaders like Breznev, Jaruzelski and Chaushesku, the torture cells of the Soviets and the foreign policy of one superpower, after being renamed in a Greek-Orthodox baptistery, has the arrogance to talk about the “fifth convoy”, spies, and conspiracies.
We would like to inform the national-socialists of the Communist Party of Greece, that their past is so burdened and their present so undemocratic, that we can consider their accusations against us as a proof for the regularity of our policies.
We would like to confirm that Rainbow, as part of the Macedonian national minority living in Greece, will continue to exist and struggle for one great multicultural and politically united Europe, despite the opposed desires of the bureaucracy in Perisos.
