Congratulation Letter to Ms O’Reilly, New E.U. Ombudsman

Dear Ms O’Reilly,

The Presidium of EFA – Rainbow, the political party of the ethnic Macedonians of Greece would like to congratulate your new position as the European Ombudsman.

As the European Ombudsman you would face many difficulties since many countries in the E.U especially in the south of Europe are in the middle of a financial and social crisis.

Let us please to present you some problems that the Greek citizens experience now, the economic crisis brought many other social problems as poverty, unemployment, the health system is ready to broke down since many public hospitals are without necessary equipment and doctors, the medicines are expensive, the pensions are getting lower, everyday shops are closing, families with nobody to work and a young generation with no stable future dreaming to find a work out of Greece. On the other hand we face a huge hypocrisy by the parties that govern us, with no self-criticism putting the blame to the Greek people for all bad things which happened when only two political parties have governed Greece for the last forty years after sever years of the junta regime.

In this context try to imagine to be a minority in Greece, the ethnic Macedonian minority does not enjoy any fundamental human rights in so called democratic country, a full member state of the E.U, COE, UN and NATO. We are not recognized, our children have no right to learn their mother tongue plus our cultural associations are not registered by Greek courts. We have enclosed to you a printed material “Notes on the Macedonian minority in Greece” where you can find a short description about the status of our minority.

Once again we would like to wish you strength, courage and good luck for your new mission.
